    Coronavirus claims 2841 lives in Brazil as Nigeria reports 187 new cases

    Global trends in COVID-19 cases unveiled
    Ekiti State Governor, HE, Kayode Fayemi: Yesterday, two of our farmers from Isaba Ekiti, Mr Toyin Akeju known locally as Jisoro and Mr Yusuf Onuche were found dead on the farms with wounds from gun shots suspected to have been fired by Bororo herdsmen. This, understandably, generated a lot of anger in the community. Fayemi with widow and children of those killed by herders.

     IKEJA, Lagos – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC has confirmed 187 new cases of Coronavirus in the country, bringing all time cases to 161,261. But out of the 161,261 confirmed cases,  146,395 patients have been treated and  discharged, while  2,027 others could not make it alive, leaving Nigeria with 12, 839 active cases of Coronavirus, while 9 patients died in the last 24 hours.

    Breakdown of the new cases is as follows, Lagos-42, Taraba-29, Edo-17, Abia-13, Rivers-11, Kaduna-10, Katsina-9, Oyo-9, Kwara-7, Plateau-7, Ondo-5, Bayelsa-4, Cross River-4, Ogun-4, Osun-4, Akwa Ibom-3, Borno-3 and  Nasarawa-3, making a total of 187 new cases.

    “NCDC@NCDC gov 187 new cases of #COVID19Nigeria; Lagos-42, Taraba-29, Edo-17, Abia-13, Rivers-11, Kaduna-10, Katsina-9, Oyo-9, Kwara-7, Plateau-7, Ondo-5, Bayelsa-4, Cross River-4, Ogun-4, Osun-4, Akwa Ibom-3, Borno-3 and  Nasarawa-3 ; 161,261 confirmed;  146,395  discharged; 2,027 deaths”, the NCDC has announced.

    There are now 121, 002, 099 confirmed cases of Coronavirus worldwide, 2,675, 521 patients have lost their lives, while 68, 635,168 others have been treated and discharged. The world is now left with 49, 691, 410  active cases of Coronavirus based on the latest statistics from the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering, Johns Hopkins University, Maryland.

    According to the Centre, the United States of America remains the most afflicted country, reporting 29, 593, 133 all time cases, while 537,747 patients have been killed by the virus(50, 825 new and 1108 deaths*), followed by Brazil which has documented 11,603, 535 confirmations,  282, 127 patients are no more, while 10, 297,896 others  have recovered, leaving Brazil with 1, 023, 512 active cases of Coronavirus(83, 926 new and 2841 deaths*) and India now reporting 11, 438,734 confirmed cases, 159, 044 patients are no more, while 11, 045, 284 others have survived the pandemic, leaving India with 234, 406 active cases of Coronavirus(209 new and 188 deaths*).

    Russia is the 4th country most hit by the pandemic, reporting 4, 368, 943 confirmations,91, 815 patients have passed on while 3, 979, 436 others have  recovered and therefore discharged, leaving Russia with 297, 692 active cases of Coronavirus(8910 new and 420 deaths*), followed by the United Kingdom which has documented 4, 287,993 all time cases, 126, 068 patients have been killed by the pandemic, while 12, 053 others have survived , leaving the UK with 4, 149, 872 active cases of Coronavirus(5852 new and 141 deaths*) and France, which has reported 4, 168, 439 all time infections, 91, 324 deaths and 282, 152 recoveries, leaving France with 3, 794, 963 active cases of Coronavirus(45 new *).

    Italy has come up as the 7th country most affected by the pandemic, reporting  3, 281, 810 confirmed cases, 103, 432 patients are already dead, while 2, 639, 370 others  have survived, leaving Italy with 539, 008 active cases of Coronavirus(23, 040 new and 431 deaths*), followed by Spain which has registered 3, 206, 116 all time cases,  72, 793 deaths and 150, 376 recoveries,  leaving Spain with 2, 982, 947 active cases of Coronavirus(6092 new and 228 deaths*) and Turkey which has reported  2, 930, 554 confirmations,  29, 696 deaths, while  2, 752, 023 patients have been treated and discharged, leaving Turkey with 148, 835 active cases of Coronavirus(18, 912 new and 73 deaths*).

    Germany remains the 10th country most affected by the pandemic, now reporting  2, 610, 756 all time cases, 74, 043 deaths and  2, 387, 743 recoveries, leaving Germany with 148, 970 active cases of Coronavirus(16, 094 new and 258 deaths*) and South Africa, now the 17th country most affected by the virus. South Africa has documented  1, 532,497 confirmed cases,  51, 634 patients  are already dead, while 1, 459, 056 others have been granted clean bill of health, leaving South Africa with 21, 807 active cases of Coronavirus(2464 new and 213 deaths*).
