SIX police officers have been killed and several others left fighting for their lives after a devastating Israeli strike hit a checkpoint in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
The officers were stationed at a security post south of Khan Yunis when the site was reduced to rubble in an instant. Emergency crews rushed to the scene to pull survivors from the debris, as the region’s death toll continues to climb.
The Casualties: Six officers confirmed dead; multiple others rushed to hospital with “serious injuries.”
The Location: A police checkpoint on the southern outskirts of Khan Yunis, a city already scarred by months of heavy bombardment.
The Aftermath: Eyewitnesses described a scene of “utter chaos,” with sirens wailing and local residents scrambling to assist the wounded.
Khan Yunis has become one of the most dangerous flashpoints in the ongoing conflict. Once Gaza’s second-largest city, it has been transformed into a landscape of shattered concrete and twisted metal.
The city has faced relentless ground and air operations, with officials stating that the infrastructure is “hanging by a thread.” This latest strike on a security outpost highlights the extreme risks faced by those attempting to maintain order within the Strip.
”The ground shook and the sky turned black,” said one local witness. “There was nothing left of the checkpoint but dust.”
The southern Gaza Strip is currently home to hundreds of thousands of displaced civilians who fled fighting in the north. International aid agencies have repeatedly warned that there is “nowhere safe left to go,” as strikes continue to hit administrative and security targets across the south.
While the police force in Gaza is technically a civil entity, they often find themselves in the crosshairs of the wider military conflict, leading to significant casualties among those performing daily law enforcement duties.
