EKPAN, Warri, Nigeria – The Delta State Police Command has arrested over 200 gay lovers, both male and females at a hotel in Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government, Delta State where they were performing marriage ceremony.
Parading the suspects at Ekpan Police Station in Delta State, Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe said they arrested the suspect following confessional statement made by a suspect.

“On the 27 of August about 1:00 hours, a patrol team attached to Ekpan Police Station intercepted one Chidi, who said he is an actor that came from Lagos to Delta”, adding that it was when he was invited to the police station that he confessed belonging to a gay society.
Edafe said the suspect confessed that he is in Delta for gay wedding ceremony and that the information led to arrest of about 200 suspects, majority all dressed in gay attires.
“We also saw two suspects among them, a bride and the groom and we have a video recording of when they were doing the wedding ceremony”, Edafe said, adding that 27 others are still under investigation and that they will all be charged to court.
He said that Nigerian law prohibits gay practice and that the law came into effect in 2013 and prescribes maximum sentence of 14 years imprisonment upon conviction and 10 years imprisonment for accomplices.
“We cannot fold our hands hence we arrested them and I can guarantee that they will be charged to court”, Bright Edafe said, adding “we are in Nigeria and we must follow the culture and laws of this land. There is no Nigerian that has the right to go against the law of the land”, insisted.
He called on parents to monitor their wards to know where they go and what they do and that the suspects are being paraded for Nigerians to see what is going on and that that the police force will ensure that they are prosecuted.
