April 17, 2015 – Fire fighters in Lagos State earn N5, 000 as hazard allowance, Commissioner for Establishment, Pension and Training, Mrs. Florence Modupe Oguntuase has said.
She made the revelation while speaking at the annual ministerial press briefing in Lagos. She said the N5,000 is just a token and that the fire fighters have life insurance which cover their expenses in the event of an accident.
She said that the money would be raised when revenues increase. Oguntuase spoke just at the Lagos State internal Revenue Service (LIRS) announced that Lagos State now has a monthly IGR of N23 billion.
She said that the monthly IGR is just a scratch compared to what is needed to govern the state.
On doctors strike, she said the no-work, no-pay policy of the state government is an international standard and that medical doctors were not singled out but that it applies to everybody working in the civil service of Lagos State.
She said the policy arose after circulars were issued to workers that anybody that embarks on an illegal strike would contend with the policy.
