MANCHESTER City laid down a thumping Champions League marker last night as they ripped Borussia Dortmund to shreds in a sensational 4-1 demolition job.

The rampant Blues turned on the style at the Etihad to leave the German giants looking like schoolboys, cruising to a victory that will send shivers down the spine of every rival in Europe.

Erling Haaland, facing his former club, was the main man, netting a spectacular second-half double that saw him celebrate with a smile as wide as the East Stand.
BRASSIC BLUES
But it was Phil Foden who truly stole the show.

The Stockport sensation struck the opener just before the break, curling a beauty past the desperate dive of the Dortmund keeper.

City’s control was total, passing their opponents into the ground before Kevin De Bruyne added a second straight after the restart with a trademark thunderbolt.

Dortmund tried to stage a comeback with a scrappy goal from Marco Reus on the hour mark to make it 2-1 and give the travelling fans a flicker of false hope.

HAALAND HAMMER
That spark was immediately extinguished by the unstoppable Norwegian machine, Haaland.

First, he headed home an unstoppable cross on 68 minutes, proving he can do more than just tap-ins. Then, he completed his brace 10 minutes later with a powerful left-foot drive to seal the 4-1 rout.
It was a performance worthy of champions elect, and manager Pep Guardiola could not hide his delight.

”It was a statement,” Pep purred afterwards. “Four goals against a team like Dortmund shows our mentality. The quality of Erling and Phil, it is scary.”

City are now roaring towards the knockout stages and looking virtually unbeatable. If they keep this form up, nobody stands a chance of taking their crown.
