October 2, 2014 – Former Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria(NAN), Mrs. Oluremi Oyo is dead. She died on Wednesday evening. Her husband Vincent Oyo confirmed has confirmed her demise.
We gathered that Oyo who was a former President Nigerian Guild of Editors(NGE) has been sick for quite some time now and has traveled in and out of Nigeria for medical attention but to no avail. She died in a London hospital.
News agency under her leadership competed favorable with other international news agencies.
“We are proud of her in Ekiti. We are proud of her achievements and the indelible marks she has put on the sand of the journalism profession and it is our prayers in Ekiti that; this shining star of our land will not dim, ” Former governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni said of her when she was reappointed.
Born in 1952, she was Senior Special Assistant to President Olusegun Obasanjo for media and publicity from 2003 to 2007. She was appointed in 2007 as the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria.
She’s survived by her husband, children and grandchildren.
