LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency(NIHSA) has warned Nigerians, specifically states bordering Kainji and Jebba dams about impending flood as both dams continue to spill water downstream.

NIHSA that raised the alarm said in a statement signed by Engr Clement Nze that water spillage has exceeded the corresponding value and warned residents of nearby states to be on the watch.

States that would likely be at the receiving end of an overflooding are Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Anambra, Delta and Bayelsa.

THE NIGERIA HYDROLOGICAL SERVICES AGENCY (NIHSA) WISHES TO INFORM THE GENERAL PUBLIC, ESPECIALLY THOSE LIVING BY THE BANKS OF RIVER NIGER, THAT RIVER FLOODING IS LIKELY TO OCCUR. BOTH KAINJI & JEBBA DAMS ARE ALREADY SPILLING WATER DOWNSTREAM. LEVEL OF WATER IN LOKOJA TODAY, 29/8/2018, HAS EXCEEDED THE CORRESPONDING VALUE ON 29/8/2012. THE FOLLOWING STATES SHOULD WATCH OUT: KEBBI, NIGER, KWARA, KOGI, ANAMBRA, DELTA & BAYELSA.
