ABUJA — In a historic milestone for Nigerian sports governance, the Federal Government has fully redeemed its pledge of cash rewards, three-bedroom housing allocations in Abuja, and National Honours to members of the national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, along with updates on commitments to the Super Falcons and Super Eagles.
Under the fulfilled package, each player of D’Tigress has received the Naira equivalent of $100,000, while team officials were awarded the equivalent of $50,000 each.
This development marks the first time in Nigeria’s sports history that a Federal Government has fully implemented presidential sporting rewards of this scale within a single year.
Addressing the timeline required to execute the payouts and property handovers, official sources clarified that rigorous administrative and statutory verification procedures were necessary to ensure legal compliance and smooth execution.
”We had to follow the processes required by law and ensure that every commitment was properly implemented. That took time, but a promise made must be a promise kept,” the administration noted, reaffirming its commitment that Nigerian athletes who bring honor to the nation deserve a country that honors its word.
D’Tigress Package: Each player receives the Naira equivalent of $100,000; officials receive $50,000 equivalent, alongside three-bedroom homes in Abuja and National Honours certificates.
Super Falcons Update: Outstanding cash reward payouts are currently being concluded. Title documents for Abuja housing allocations and National Honours certificates have already been disbursed.
Super Eagles Status: Presidential pledges of housing allocations and National Honours made to the senior men’s football team have been fully redeemed.
Presidential rewards for national teams in Nigeria have historically faced multi-year delays or partial fulfillment across successive administrations.
The swift clearance of these financial and real estate commitments within a 12-month window reflects a structural shift coordinated through the National Sports Commission (NSC) to institutionalize athlete welfare.
By resolving outstanding pledges for D’Tigress, the Super Falcons, and the Super Eagles simultaneously, the administration aims to establish a reliable reward framework to motivate Nigerian athletes competing on global stages.
