October 19, 2014 – Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has appointed Dr. Adekemi Oluwayemisi Sekoni as Chief Scientific Adviser.
Sekoni is a senior lecturer in Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Lagos.
Fashola who made the announcement at an occasion to mark his 2, 700 days in Lagos said the office would coordinate all activities that has to do with scientific research in Lagos State.
Fashola who saluted the resilience of residents in combating the Ebola Virus Disease said 20 cases were recorded in Lagos out of which eight persons died adding that the way government tackled the ailment has projected Nigeria positively to the international community.
He said that though there are currently no cure, he said he is optimistic that very soon there will be vaccine and a cure to the ailment.
He alluded to the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome(AIDS) which he said initially had no cure but that scientist have been able to bring out a vaccine that enable those who have it to live their normal lives.
