AWKA, Anambra – Mr. Ifeanyi Lebechi, the second son of the late Sunday Ekwubiri Lebechi—popularly known as Eze Ji—has described his father as a role model and a peacemaker.

Speaking to our reporter at the burial ceremony, Ifeanyi reflected on the legacy of his father, who he said devoted his life to building and sustaining peaceful relationships.

“My father was a peacemaker. “He valued love, punctuality, and unity. Keeping to time was something he took seriously. Whenever there was any form of conflict, he would go to great lengths—even losing sleep—just to restore peace. It happened often in our family, where he worked tirelessly to keep everyone united.”he said.

Ifeanyi went on to say that it was because of his father’s deep commitment to peace and Christian values that he had always seen him as a role model.

“He did so much for me and for others. For everything he did and stood for, I will forever remain grateful to him” he said.

He said that the late Sunday Ekwubiri Lebechi passed away at the age of 90—a milestone age many aspire to reach. According to Ifeanyi, “My father died a fulfilled man. I believe he also enjoyed his life. He lived a life worthy of emulation. What else can I say? He was a good man.”

The burial ceremony was a beehive of activities and drew people from all walks of life. Among those present were Dr. Chidi Mba, President General of the Uturu Development Association of Nigeria (UDAN); Bishop Ekebuisi; Mr. Henry Ogbulogo of the Federal Character Commission, Abuja; Professor Charles Ogbulogo, Vice Chancellor of Maduka University, Enugu; Chief Tony Egu; along with numerous friends and well-wishers from across the country.

Entertainment at the event was vibrant and diverse. Legendary musician Bright Chimezie performed live for two days. Various cultural dance troupes, masquerades, and women’s dance groups also showcased traditional entertainment.

The Class of 1985 from Uturu Secondary School, of which Ifeanyi Lebechi is a proud member, was also present to honor the life of a man they described as fulfilled and inspirational. Dr. Mrs. Nkechi Ohaike, chairperson of the Class of ’85, described the late Eze Ji as “a man of peace who devoted much of his life to the pursuit of peace and justice.”

She added that their presence at the event was not only to support Ifeanyi, a committed and prominent member of the class, but also to celebrate the legacy of a man who had touched many lives.

The burial ceremony was a testament to the impact of the late Eze-ji’s life and legacy on his family, friends, and community
