The crisis in Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has continued to sink deeper, after the election of the Lagos State chapter that produced two chairmen, comic actor, Victor Osuagqu, candidate of the Board of Trustees ( BOT) and President of the association, Ibinabo Fiberesima, and Mr. Don Pedro Aganbi, the chairman those who voted want to lead them in Lagos State.
As the crisis gets worse, Fiberesima has continued to exercise autocratic powers by allegedly impeaching national Public Relations of the association, Mr. Frank Dallas for telling the whole world the truth that Victor Aganbi actually won the election.
Besides, former Chairman of the union in Lagos State, Mr. Emeka Rising was also expelled, while Aganbi and his executives were suspended to pave way for Osuagwu to have a free reign in Lagos State. But Aganbi has pointed out that Fiberesima does not have the power to impeach and suspend not to talk of expelling anybody from the association, stressing that he remains the chairman and he is headed for the court to reclaim his mandate.
But earlier during the week, the real reason why President of the union opted to rig the election for Osuagwu even when Don Pedro Aganbi, the candidate she canvassed for and encouraged to run for the election was the clear winner emerged.
We gathered that powerful members of the BOT, made up of Chairman, Prince Ifeanyi Dike, Vice Chairman, Emmanuel Oguguah and some other members forced her to rig the election in favour of their candidate as a way of paying them for clearing her for the Presidential election, even when she was not qualified to run for the election. Already, Emeka Ike, a nollywood actor and several others are still in court over this issue.
Aganbi confirmed this development in a statement to Starconnectmedia wherein he stated that the BOT prevailed on Fiberesima against her will to announce the wrong candidate as winner to protect herself.
“I can tell you that she has been asking people in AGN to reach out to me but my response is simple “Sovereignty belongs to the people and I have the people’s mandate. As I speak Lagos AGN is not answerable to Ibinabo because session 4U of AGN constitution forbids her as an EX CONVICT to preside over the guild and we have already gone to court to institute a case.See details of the press statement below.
HOW IBINABO CONVINCED ME TO CONTEST AGN LAGOS ELECTION – DON PEDRO AGANBI
HOW IFEANYI DIKE AND EMMANUEL OGUGUAH RIG AGN LAGOS ELECTION
“Chairman AGN Lagos State Chapter DON PEDRO AGANBI has revealed how embattled national president of AGN Ibinabo Fiberesimaconvinced him to run for the chairmanship of the Lagos guild
Initially she had invited me to contest against the current national secretary Abubakar Yakub which I politely turned down on the reason that I needed to be fully grounded at the state level before going to accept any offer at the national.
Then she came again after the election in Benin to ask me to contest for the Lagos Chairmanship position because we were that close. She already was calling me Chairman and took me to some of the stakeholders and her national excos telling them I was her candidate and asking for their support
Few weeks to the elections she called me to a private meeting where she told me that the Chairman of the board of trustees prince ifeanyi Dike and his vice Emmanuel Oguguah brough Victor Osuagwu to her for endorsement and that she only played along because she considers Victor as too dull to be her Chairman and urged me to do my home work. She also told me how both Ifeanyi Dike and Emmanuel Oguguah cleared her when the EX-CONVICT matter came up before her election and would not want to be seen as standing against their candidate but she gave me every assurance to pick the form which I did
“During the meeting, I even remember telling her that I could step down if this could strain her relationship with the BOT because to me it was a do or die matter but she insisted I contested the election” With that assurance I plunged into the electoral campaign”
“So you can now understand my frustrations and anger when, during the election, Ibinabo( IB) disappeared with the ballot papers and went to Fred Amata’s home to count the votes and later did the abracadabra and announce Victor Osuagwu as the winner in a most bizarre manner.”
“I can tell you that she has been asking people in AGN to reach out to me but my response is simple “Sovereignty belongs to the people and I have the people’s mandate. As I speak Lagos AGN is not answerable to Ibinabo because session 4U of AGN constitution forbids her as an EX CONVICT to preside over the guild and we have already gone to court to institute a case.
When asked if it’s late for peace, for him and IB to go back to the brotherly-sisterly friendship they used to have, he said it’s not too late but he wants the right thing to be done first.
We pray that the warring factions should come together for the peaceful existence of AGN.
