PEDRO NETO put on an absolute masterclass on Merseyside as Chelsea delivered a devastating punch to crash Everton’s unbeaten Premier League party.
The Portuguese wizard struck twice—once directly after the second-half restart and again in stoppage time—to hand Xabi Alonso’s blues a brilliant 2-0 victory at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. In doing so,
Chelsea finally put an end to their agonizing 22-match Premier League run without a clean sheet, catapulting themselves into the top four.
However, the afternoon was marred by concern when world-class keeper Emiliano Martínez was stretchered off in the second period following a painful collision with Jarrad Branthwaite.
Sensational Portuguese Star Steals the Show
From the opening whistle, it was a fiery encounter packed with bite, physical clashes, and plenty of drama. Seven yellow cards were flashed across a combative 90 minutes, with the referee busy cooling tempers as Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers, and James Tarkowski all went into the book early on.
Everton’s formidable defence tried to stand strong behind Jordan Pickford, who produced fine first-half saves to deny Cole Palmer and Jack Grealish.
At the other end, Thierno Barry missed Everton’s best chance when he headed straight at Martínez. But just when David Moyes thought his Toffees had successfully neutralized the visitors going into the interval, Chelsea flipped the script.
Just 43 seconds into the second half, the genius of Pedro Neto came to light.
Morgan Rogers flicked a delightful backheel to release Dutch full-back Jorrel Hato down the left flank. Hato whipped in a precise cross that evaded Everton’s defenders, finding an unmarked Neto who calmly swept his strike past Pickford to silence the home fans.
Everton pushed for an equalizer, but Chelsea’s defensive unit held firm under pressure. Subbed keeper Mike Penders stepped up admirably after Martínez was forced off, making a vital punch to clear Everton’s dangerous set-piece delivery.
As Everton threw body after body forward in search of a late savior, Chelsea punished them on the counter. In the 90th minute, after an initial free-kick bounced off the wall, the ball fell to Neto on the edge of the area.
Demonstrating elite composure, the winger delayed his shot perfectly before rolling a sublime finish into the far bottom corner to seal the match.
Chelsea asserted control throughout the afternoon, controlling fifty-three percent of the ball possession compared to Everton’s forty-seven percent. Xabi Alonso’s men carved out eighteen total shot attempts, testing Everton’s goal with five shots strictly on target, six blocked attempts, and five shots fired off goal. In contrast, Everton was restricted to five total shots, all five of which were saved between Emiliano Martínez and Mike Penders.
The Blues generated an expected goals tally of 1.54 compared to Everton’s modest 0.45. Chelsea won seven corners to Everton’s five, while showing clean passing quality by completing three hundred and sixty-eight accurate passes at an eighty-five percent accuracy rate. Everton registered three hundred and thirty-one accurate passes with seventy-nine percent accuracy.
Defensively, Chelsea racked up thirty-two clearances and eight tackles won, absorbing Everton’s late pressure to earn a precious shutout.
