ABUJA, Nigeria – Operatives of the Department of State Security(DSS) have arrested the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) Mr. Ibrahim Magu.

Magu, according to Saharareporters  was arrested over allegations that he owns four properties and that he was allegedly transferring funds abroad through a third party

Magu was arrested at the Wuse II office of the DSS on Monday afternoon and is now undergoing interrogation at the DSS Headquarters In Aso Drive.

The DSS in a 2016 report revealed that Magu is  living in a N40m mansion paid for by one Umar Mohammed, a retired air commodore who is allegedly involved in shady deals.

In March, 2017, the Senate refused to confirm Ibrahim Magu as EFCC chairman. Latching on to a DSS report on Magu, Senator Dino Melaya said Magu who was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari despite protest from the senate  has failed integrity test.

Senator, Dino Melaye, told the Senate that the SSS just yesterday wrote on the eve of the screening proclaiming that Magu has failed integrity test.

According to Melaye, the report noted that Magu would be a liability to the fight against corruption in Nigeria.

“MAGU has failed integrity test and will eventually constitute a liability to the anti-corruption fight”, he said.

Reacting , Magu said the letter indicting him is fake, adding that it was signed by F. A Adams and that there is nobody by that name in DSS.

He said, EFCC is a very strong institution. He said there is no fair hearing in the indictment because EFCC has provision for fair hearing. “They ought to have invited me for a fair hearing”, he said.

He said the EFCC has employed the workers in the cadre of inspectors and superintendents and that the EFCC takes equal amount of recruits from each state, except in rare cases.
