September 5, 2014 – The Department of State Security Service has indicated intention to quiz former Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff.
Spokesperson of DSS, Mrs. Merilyn Ogar who spoke at a press conference in Abuja said the department is inviting the former governor based on allegation made by the Australian hostage negotiator, Mr. Steven Davis.
She said the department had in the past quizzed the former governor but that he will be invited again for questioning.
She however berated the Australian for accusing the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika as one of the sponsors of the radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram. She said it is wrong to accuse a man who laid down his life for the nation simply because he is no longer in office.
She said the retired general as well as the DSS and other security services battled the sect throughout the nation until they were pushed into Sambisa forest.
