LAGOS, Nigeria – Dozens of  Nigerians were massacred on Tuesday night, October 20, when soldiers opened fire on a peaceful protest by aggrieved youths  calling for an end to police brutality and bad governance.

Eye witnesses reported that the soldiers acting in coordination with the operators of the most illuminated Lekki Toll gate switched off the light  and CCTV to enable them conceal the massacre and thereafter opened fire, killing and maiming dozens of Nigerians.

    Killed by Soldiers

Among the dozens killed was as Jide, Iraoya Godwin, 4 others dead bodies which were also recovered from the scene but we gathered that armed soldiers also took away some of the corpses in other to conceal the death toll. Members of the #endSARS movement however succeeded in moving some of the injured to over 10 hospitals including the Lagos general hospitals, where they are currently receiving treatment for bullet wounds.

“They removed the cctv cameras, turned off the lights and They are killing people and taking their body’s. The whole Government should step down!! I’m in so much pain.

“May the heavens open and celebrate all Martyrs and Fallen Heroes who Died today and all who have died for this Movement from the beginning . You are our Heroes and we will not let your death be in vain”, Burna Boy said.

The massacre  has already received international attention with many calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop the massacre. Leading the call is former US Presidential aspirant, Hilary Clinton, who has called on the Nigerian President to stop killing the aggrieved youths.

Damini Ogulu alias Burna Boy  and others in the  #endSARS movement have already lodged a petition with the UK parliament calling for sanctions against the Nigerian government for the massacre.

Already, over 61,000 Nigerians in the UK have signed the petition, with less than 40,000 signatories left to make the 100,000 signatories required for the matter to be debated  in the  UK parliament.

Nigerian footballer, Odion Igalo has also condemned the massacre, calling on the UK government to put pressure on the Nigerian government to stop the massacre.

“You will be remembered as the first government to send soldiers to kill citizens, I am ashamed of you people, i call on the Uk government to come to the aid of Nigerian”, Odion Igalo said. Click the link below to watch his video

“Implement sanctions against the Nigerian Government and officials – Petitions! We Need 100k signatures from UK Citizens for this to be tabled by parliament. Please Help is make our Killers pay”, the sponsors of the petition pleaded.

“The Government should explore using the new sanctions regime that allows individuals and entities that violate human rights around the world to be targeted, to impose sanctions on members of the Nigerian government and police force involved in any human rights abuses by the Nigerian police”, another concerned member of the movement said

“We protested against violence, and they responded with more violence. We spoke up about getting beaten, extorted and killed – they responded with more killing. Our hearts are broken but our spirits will never die”, Banky Wellington said.

Former President of the Senate , Dr. Bukola Saraki also called on government to explore dialogue instead of use of force.

“I am horrified by the use of lethal force against #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos. My heart bleeds for this country. It is sad and disheartening that this is happening. These are peaceful youth protesting to express legitimate concerns.

“I appeal to the government to put an end to this shooting of protesters by security agents. We need to exercise great patience, restraint and compassion in handling the demands of these youth.

“This harassment and extrajudicial killing of Nigerians must stop immediately and the security agents who carried out this exercise should be brought to justice. No life of any Nigerian youth taking part in a peaceful protest deserves to be taken.

“Killing our young and defenceless children under any circumstances is wrong. Period. Killing our children is also killing our future as a nation. We must  walk back from this. Mr. President this is what needs to be done. I appeal to you to do the right thing”, Saraki said.
