DONALD TRUMP has sensationally axed Kristi Noem as his Homeland Security chief after a “tumultuous” year of border chaos and friendly fire from her own party.
In a move that has sent shockwaves through Washington, the President announced on Truth Social that Noem will be replaced by Oklahoma Senator and former cage-fighter Markwayne Mullin on March 31.
While Trump publicly praised Noem for “spectacular results,” the high-profile shuffle comes just days after she was savaged by both Republicans and Democrats in a brutal Capitol Hill grilling.
Rather than a total exit, Noem is being moved to a newly created role: Special Envoy for the ‘Shield of the Americas.’
Insiders suggest the title is a face-saving “golden handcuffs” appointment. The new initiative, set to be formally unveiled in Florida this weekend, reportedly focuses on dismantling drug cartels across the Western Hemisphere.
Despite the President’s public “thank you,” Noem’s tenure was plagued by controversy:
Friendly Fire: Leading Republicans recently joined Democrats in slamming her “disastrous” handling of agency budgets.
Tragedy on the Ground: Public anger peaked following the fatal shooting of two U.S. citizens by DHS agents in Minneapolis.
Self-Promotion: Eyebrows were raised over a $200 million (£157m) advertising campaign that prominently featured Noem herself.
In Markwayne Mullin, Trump has chosen a “MAGA warrior” with a literal punch. A member of the Cherokee Nation and an undefeated professional MMA fighter, Mullin is expected to take an even harder line on the President’s mass deportation agenda.
”Markwayne will work tirelessly to keep our border secure,” Trump declared, signaling a shift toward a more aggressive, “street-fighter” style of leadership at the helm of America’s domestic security.
The Appointment: Kristi Noem was one of Trump’s first Cabinet picks for his second term (confirmed Jan 2025).
Her departure marks the first major Cabinet exit of this administration.
The Replacement: Markwayne Mullin has served in the Senate since 2023.
As a staunch Trump loyalist, his appointment is seen as an attempt to tighten the White House’s grip on the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) amid ongoing legal battles over immigration.
The “Shield of the Americas” initiative is expected to be a regional security pact involving Latin American leaders to coordinate on migration and anti-cartel operations.
