ENUGU, NIGERIA – In a major boost for Nigeria’s regional digital economy, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has formalized an agreement with the Enugu State Government for the operational lease of the NCC Digital Industrial Park and the NCC Learning Centre in Enugu.
The landmark agreement signing was witnessed by the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, who led a high-level delegation comprising members of the Commission’s Governing Board and top Management personnel.
The lease agreement is set to activate the multi-billion-naira telecom infrastructure assets, transforming them into hub ecosystems for ICT skills acquisition, youth innovation, and digital entrepreneurship across the South-East region.
Inspection of Enugu Smart School Initiative
Following the signing ceremony, Dr. Maida and the NCC delegation visited the Enugu Smart School Initiative, where modern instructional technology and digital learning tools are being integrated into primary and secondary classrooms.
The delegation observed live smart classroom sessions designed to equip young Nigerians with digital literacy and technical competence early in their academic journeys.
Speaking on the Commission’s broad vision, Dr. Maida reiterated that the NCC remains steadfast in its mandate to drive national digital transformation through strategic sub-national collaboration.
”The NCC remains deeply committed to supporting and enabling initiatives that expand digital inclusion, strengthen sub-national innovation, and cultivate the human capital needed to power Nigeria’s evolving digital economy,” the EVC stated.
The NCC Digital Industrial Park initiative was designed as part of the Federal Government’s effort to bridge the digital divide and create ICT innovation hubs across key geopolitical zones in Nigeria.
Under the leadership of Dr. Aminu Maida, the regulatory commission has placed a strong emphasis on practical asset utilization, strategic partnerships, and infrastructure adoption to support the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy’s target of training millions of technical talents (3MTT) and driving national broadband penetration.
Enugu State, under Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, has prioritized technological transformation through its Smart School Agenda, making the state a prime partner for deploying federal digital infrastructure.
The operational leasing of the Enugu Park is expected to generate employment, foster start-up incubation, and position Enugu as a leading technology hub in Eastern Nigeria.
