Picks PDP card at ward level

AKURE, Ondo, Nigeria – The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Alfred Agboola Ajayi has resigned his membership of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

The deputy governor was late on Saturday night detained for hours and prevented  from moving out of Government House by Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Mr. Bolaji Salami  allegedly on the orders of the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu and could not move out despite his fervent appeal.

We gathered that the Commissioner was invited to Government House to stop the Deputy Governor, Alfred Agboola Ajayi  over fear that  he was planning to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP)

Agboola Ajayi was stopped along with two members of the State House of Assembly, Festus Akingbaso and Rasheed Elegbeleye. They were stopped in the wee hours of Saturday.

Reacting to the development, the governor of the state, Arabirin Rotimi Akeredolu described the report that the CP stopped the deputy governor on his orders as nothing but total misrepresentation of facts.

According to him, Agboola can go anywhere.

“Total Misrepresentation of facts. I did not tell the government house security to hold him back at any point. Why would I? Agbo can go anywhere he likes. I wish him well”, he said.

PDP however announced the development this way, “The Deputy Governor of Ondo state, Hon. Agboola Ajayi has resigned his membership of the failed @OfficialAPCNg. Hon. Agboola after his resignation, picked the  @OfficialPDPNig membership card at Ward 2, Apoi, in Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.”, the PDP said.

A copy of Agboola Ajayi’s  terse resignation letter obtained by our correspondent showed that the deputy governor copied Chairman of APC in Ese-Odo Local Government of Ondo State, thanking the party  for the party and opportunity given him to serve.

“I write to tender my resignation as a member of the All Progressive Congress(APC). I sincerely appreciate the party for the opportunity to serve, while wishing the party the best”, he said.
