ASABA—The Delta State Police Command announced on Tuesday that it will commence the full enforcement of regulations governing tinted vehicle glass starting on Thursday, October 2, 2025.
The Command, through its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, reiterated the directive in a press release issued on September 30, 2025, stating the move is “in line with extant federal laws and directives.” The statewide operation is promised to be conducted with “professionalism, respect for constitutional rights, and zero tolerance for abuse.”
In a dual-pronged approach to curb road intimidation and enhance public safety, the Command also strongly restated the ban on the unauthorized use of sirens and revolving/strobe lights. This prohibition applies to private individuals and non-entitled officials.
Furthermore, a stern warning was issued against the practice of covering, defacing, or obstructing number plates.
The police insisted that number plates must remain “clear, legible, and properly affixed at all times,” warning against any alteration—including bending, flipping, tinting, covering, or sticker obstruction—that renders them unreadable.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, assured residents that the enforcement is principally focused on immediately stopping illegal sirens, unauthorized flashing lights, and tampered number plates.
According to the CP, these measures are intended to “curb road intimidation, strengthen deterrence, and improve public safety.”
He directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to closely supervise field operations, emphasizing the need to ensure civility and “full respect for human rights” in all engagements.
Drivers across the state are reminded to carry all essential vehicle documents, including their driver’s licence, insurance, and proof of ownership, and to cooperate courteously with officers during lawful stop-and-search procedures.
The Command strongly advised motorists with unauthorized sirens and flashing lights to remove them immediately, warning that “defaulters will be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
Members of the public are encouraged to report any misconduct by police officers during the exercise through the Complaint Response Unit, Delta State Police Command, via the following numbers: 09155570008, 09011112311, 09064308018, and 09066575187.
