Governor Rotimi Amaechi, factional Chairman of the Nigeria’s Governor’s Forum(NGF) and his colleagues were on Friday disappointingly embarrassed when they gathered at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos for their yearly retreat.

The session which took off on a very resounding note was interrupted at least four times by power failure before the close of session.

The host governor, Fashola and chairman NGF had just finished their opening remarks paving the way for presentation of the first set of papers, Overview of the current state of agriculture in the state.

The first speaker, Professor Babagana Abba Gambo, Associate Prof, University of Maiduguru had dwelled extensively on his paper and the audience thought it would continue to be a smooth transition until, Professor Victor Okorowa of the University of Ibadan, mounted the stage.

Just few minutes into the session, the light went off, those who anticipated that the generating set of the five star hotel would come on were disappointed when it never did for a period of five minutes, the trend continued few minutes later forcing Amaechi to call on the speaker to tarry for a while.

Even some in attendance thought it was sabotage. But that was not all. Things got worse when the light went off for the third with the generating set unable to come to the rescue.

It was so terrible that chairman of one of the sessions, former Chairman Independent and Corrupt Practices Commission(ICPC) Justice Mustapha Akanbi had to force the session to proceed on break before time. Live telecast of the entire session was also affected. The light went off a fourth time but this time it was not long before management of the hotel restored light to the Convention Centre, venue of the conference.

It was so frustrating that the former Vice Chancellor, University of Benin, Professor Grace Alele Williams who chaired one of the sessions alluded to the disappointment since the development prolonged a conference that was to terminate by 2:45 for another two and half hour. The conference ended at exactly 5:45PM.

In attendance were the factional chairman of NGF, Lagos State Governor Mr. Babatunde Fashola, his counterpart from Ekiti State, Governor Kayode Fayemi, that of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole that of Sokoto State, Mr. Aliu Wammako of Sokoto State, that of Zamfara State, Alhaji Abdul-Aziz Yari Abubakar and four other deputies from Imo, Osun, Ogun and Oyo State.

Also in attendance were former chairmen of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), Mr. Nuhu Ribadu and the former Chairman of Independent and Corrupt Practices Commission(ICPC) Justice Mustapha Akanbi rtd., former Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Grace Alele Williams and other important dignitaries.
