ABUJA, Nigeria – The Vice Presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP, Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed has called on Nigerians to vote out political parties that have failed the nation in the democratic process, making Nigeria a laughing stock in the committee of nations.
Baba-Ahmed who was addressing a meeting of Northern Elders Forum in Abuja, spoke in parable, describing the north as very religious.
He said the leadership has failed in the management of affairs of the nation, stressing that if the elders don’t like what is going on in the country, the responsibility falls on their shoulders to vote them out.
“If you don’t like your situation change it. We don’t like the truth, those who have failed us, move them out”, he said. While alluding to the speech of Dr. Usman Bugaje who questioned the rationale for bestowing titles on those who have stolen the nation’s wealth, he noted“ Dr. Bugaje said, why should people who stole be given titles, he should have put it this way, why should people who stole be given power”, he queried.
According to him, terrorists are not more powerful than the Nigerian state, adding that terrorism persisted because of the lack of will by the leadership. He said a well armed Maitama Police Station should be able to flush out terrorists if the leadership has the will.
“The terrorists are not more powerful than government, Maitama Police Station can dislodge them but it has persisted because there is no political will on the part of government”, he said, stressing the history of himself and that of his presidential candidate shows they were able to create wealth not from government.
“Our history shows, we were able to create wealth, we did not create wealth from govt. We will bring solution to endemic corruption”. He said, alluding to the giant stride achievement of Peter Obi, who left N70 billion in the coffers of Anambra State while he was leaving power without burrowing a kobo in infrastructural renewal.
He also alluded to the refusal of Peter Obi to take his entitlements in Anambra at a time when public officials where multiplying severance benefits in Lagos and in other places to enrich themselves.
“The truth is that we don’t say the truth, and we don’t support the truth hence we are not moving forward, nobody can stop the idea whose time has come”, he said, adding that Nigerians have decided to vote competency, trusted and honesty leadership. Nigerians let’s meet at the polls”, he said confidently.
