“For us, it’s like what the Champions League is for others. That’s how we feel,” he told broadcasters ARD on Friday evening after Darmstadt secured their fourth Bundesliga promotion, the first since the relegation in 2016-17, with a 1-0 win against Magdeburg.
“I believe that from the outside nobody can really understand how much energy, power and tears it cost us to reach this,” Fritsch said.
The president, however, didn’t want to draw comparisons with the promotion in 2015.
“Back then, it was like Easter and Christmas all at once. Now we’ve worked our way forward bit by bit. That doesn’t mean it’s not just as beautiful. Back then it was almost bizarre,” he said.
