First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan has paid for the cost of surgery for over 800 Nigerian children who are currently undergoing surgery in India for various heart related problems.
She made the revelation while receiving the first batch of the children from India after a successful operation. It was not clear how much the First Lady would have coughed out for the surgery, whom she is taking care of through her foundation.
She expressed her gratitude to God for the safe return of each child, noting that since the process started in 2013, no death has been recorded.
“We have treated more than 800 patients with no record of casualty; I’m happier than you, the parents” she noted, adding that that a 250-bed hospital facility dedicated to the treatment of children with heart related diseases was under construction and would soon be commissioned.
“We are partnering with our international friends from South Korea, India and America who will run the hospital.’’
One of the beneficiaries, Miss Aisha Aliu, thanked the first lady on behalf of all the other children .
“I thank you for saving my life, for your contribution towards my heart surgery, may God bless you ma”, she said.
