Actors Guild of Nigeria(AGN) Lagos State is in now in deep crisis following the inability of the body to conduct an election that will produce a clear cut winner. So far, two candidates, Don Pedro Aganbi and Victor Osuagwu that participated in the election have been sworn in as chairmen of the association.
The national body swore in Osuagwu as duly elected chairman while the local chapter went ahead at their last congress in Lagos to adopt Don Pedro Aganbi as their chairman and consequently swore him in as winner of the June 22 election. Speaking in Lagos, Aganbi said the election was characterized by ballot snatching, with President of union, Ms. Ibinabo Fiberesima alleged to have physically snatched the ballot box when it became clear that her candidate Victor Osuagwu has been defeated hands-down.
She was said to have diverted it to the home of her lover, when all thought she was heading to the headquarters of the secretariat only to declare Osuagwu duly elected. Aganbi who has resumed at AGN’s secretariat in Surulere, Lagos has vowed never to relinquish his mandate, threatening to go to court if it becomes necessary.
Meanwhile Vice Chairman, Board of Trustees, AGN, Mr. Emmanuel Oguguah has appealed to aggrieved parties to take their case to the panel set up to look into issues involved and the resulting crisis adding that the decision of the panel would be upheld by both the BOT and the national body. But outgoing chairman, Mr. Emeka Rising said the BOT is corrupt otherwise they would not endorse Osuagwu whom he said came second in the election.
