    Demands apology from Samuel Ortom

    Emmanuel Thomas l Friday, May 08, 2020

LAGOS, Nigeria – British-Nigerian, Susan Idoko Okpele Lawani now popularly known as Susan Okpe is angry with the Nigerian government, especially the Governor of Benue State, Mr. Samuel Ortom.

    Susan Okpe

Her annoyance may have been well placed. Governor Samuel Ortom had announced her name as the COVID-19 index case in Benue, even though she believes she is yet to test positive to the COVID-19 pandemic. But the governor believes she is based on reports presented before him.

But she believes that the positive result ascribed to her has nothing to do with her and her reasoning seems to be cogent in a way potraying the government of Benue and Nigeria to be liars and not transparent in their management of the COVID-19 pandemic.

She had presented herself to Grace Cottage Hospital, Benue State after arriving Nigeria March 22nd from England. Susan Okpe, as she is now fondly called in Benue had visited to pay her last homage to her mother who had passed on. But 43 days on, she has not been able to achieve what she came all the way from England to do in Nigeria.

By 24 of March, she was having pains after the long journely and went for check up at the Grace Cottage Hospital, Benue. Upon examination, the doctor on duty told her she had mild temperature but she insisted she was having just body pains due to the long travel.

Upon the doctor’s insistence she was admitted and given pain relief and by the second day she was okay when the pains subsided and thought of going home but the doctor insisted on standard procedure to which she consented. Her left nose and throat were swopped for test. The result returned 36 hours later positive as she was told but the result was not presented to her. Before long, the governor had announced her name as the index case.

The hospital was condoned off by armed men and she was conveyed via an ambulance to an isolation centre where she spent 10 days before she was thereafter moved to Abuja. She was later given the result but what she found was rather startling.

“In that report, it stated that I came into this country on the 28th of February. On the 28th of February I was still in England. It was also stated in that report that I presented myself to the hospital with fever and stooling on the 16th of March, 2020, which was not true. On the 16th of March, I was still in England. I came into Nigeria on the 22nd of March and went to the hospital on the 24th of March.

“So in the report, there was nothing to show that the report is mine. The NCDC is still using that report. The birth date on the report says 58 and 62. I am not 58 and I am not 62. I am 50 plus. Not near that age, so I was still wondering whose report is that.

“It is still on the basis of that report that the NCDC is working on and holding me here for 43 days. Even it I was COVID-19 positive, is it not for the governor to counsel me, is it for him to put my name in the press, is that the WHO standard? Please watch her video for more shocking details.
