IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – A Lagos High Court, sitting in Ikeja today ordered the detention of Monday Odeh in a correctional center for alleged murder of a 54-year-old man, Mr. Abdulahi Yinusa.
Odeh is facing a murder charge before Justice Adenike Coker.
The Lagos State Prosecution Counsel, Ms. Titi Adeegbe, informed the court that Odeh unlawfully caused Yinusa’s death on April 4, 2019, in the Magodo area of the state by striking his head on the floor.
The charge against Odeh contravened Section 223 of the Criminal Law, Cap. C. 17, Vol. 3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Despite the accusation, the defendant pleaded not guilty. Adeegbe requested a trial date considering Odeh’s plea.
The judge adjourned the matter until Feb. 12 for trial. Justice Coker suggested to the Defense Counsel, Mrs. Onikepo Braithwaite, should discuss the option of a plea bargain with the defendant if deemed appropriate.
Plea bargain provides defendants with the opportunity to negotiate an agreement with the prosecution, potentially leading to a more lenient sentence in exchange for a guilty plea.
