Court Adjourns Buhari Eligibility Suit Till April 22

[wysija_form id=”1″]March 25, 2015 – After months of speculation about possible disqualification of Presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja today adjourned the eligibility suit filed against  Buhari  by Chukwuemeka Okafor to April 22 and 23rd , 2015 after the Presidential and Governorship election.

Publicity secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed had on Tuesday issued a press release where he alleged that Buhari will be  disqualified today and said that the development portends danger.

The adjournment will definitely douse apprehension as Nigerians brace up for the general election on Saturday.

Hearing the case this morning, Justice Adeniyi Ademola  said he will now hear the matter for two days,  April 22 and 23. The court however dismissed the applications filed  by a  Lagos-based pro-democracy activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa to be joined in the suit.

However on Tuesday ,  Mike Ozekhome, SAN and  and Okafor had requested the court to reject the applications to join the suit.

Okafor who filed the suit had contended that  Buhari is not eligible to contest the Presidential election  on the basis that Buhari committed perjury  by claiming to have attached his academic qualifications to the INEC form he filled and submitted  when it was clear he did not do so.
