AKURE, Nigeria – The Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Corps Commander Ahmed Hassan has observed that corps members are role models in the society. The Sector Commander made the observation at the Command Headquarters when she hosted the NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani who paid him a courtesy call. According to Commander Hassan,  the invaluable services the corps members render in all the spheres of life is a pointer that NYSC is a bridge builder.

“The FRSC has always been showing keen interest in the affairs of corps members because we believed that as patriotic Nigerians who renders selfless service to the nation, they should be protected and guided”.

“As graduates, there is tendency for them to exhibit youthful exuberance but we shall continue to play the fatherly roles and see that public expectations does not in anyway elude them. They are our children and we shall ensure that they see life in positive perception always”.

He said that FRSC is intensifying training and sensitisation of corps members under the Road Safety CDS group on the need to take their assignment seriously because it involves life.

“I am personally involved in the training of these young Nigerians. When they come for CDS activities and you ask them to interpret the road signs, most of them do not know them but with constant training via lecture and sensitisation, they now know that all the road signs are universal which means the way you will interpret the signs here in Nigeria is the same way you will do so across countries of the world”.

The Road Safety chief used the platform of the visit to inform NYSC management to advise staff to migrate to the new number plate as the old one has been phased out.

“Beginning from May, 2021, the Joint Tax Board established to enforce uniformity in the registration of number plates in line with the best global practice will not engage in renewal of old number plates as Government has given enough time for everyone to migrate to the new system”.

“The new number plate has a lot of advantages as it can be used to track down any vehicle within country and the neighbouring countries. With the new system, we have recovered 16 stolen vehicles brought into Ondo State for registration and we discovered the theft when we checked our system” he said.

The Adamawa State born Corps Commander from Michika Local Government said that he believe that the cooperation and synergy between FRSC and NYSC will continue to blossom and he promised to offer required assistance any time his Command is called upon.

Speaking earlier, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani said she was at the Command’s Headquarters to seek for deeper collaboration with the FRSC.

Mrs. Ani who assumed duties in the Sunshine State in the last month of the first quarter said that the FRSC should not relent in training the corps members on the rudiments of road safety now that the activities of the Scheme is gradually returning to full swing.

“You will agree with me that the task of controlling road traffic requires in-depth technicalities which should be adequately mastered to ensure that no life is put at risk and corps members who have passion for this assignment should be professionally trained by well grounded personnel of the Command”.

The NYSC Ondo State boss appreciated the Sector Commander for always availing the scheme the services of experienced and proficient officers to sensitise corps members about their activities during orientation courses.

She appealed to the Command to recommend to their Corp’s headquarters for permanent employment corps members who distinguished themselves in the course of the service year with the Command. Mrs. Ani thanked the Sector Commander and his management team for the warm reception accorded her despite the short notice.
