    Coronavirus in Nigeria: 553 new as cases surpass 6 million worldwide

    Death toll: US 103, 674; U.K 38, 455; Italy  33, 340

    LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) has confirmed  553 new cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria, the highest so far, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 9855.

    But out of the 9855 cases, 2856 patients have recovered and subsequently discharged, while 273 others could not make it alive.

    However, a breakdown  of 553 new cases showed that 378 were found in Lagos, 52 in Abuja, 23 in Delta, 22 in Edo, 14 in Rivers, 13 in Ogun, 12 in Kaduna, 9 in Kano, 7 in Borno, 6 in Katsina, 5 in Jigawa, 5 in Oyo, 3 in Yobe, 3 in Plateau and 3 in Osun State, the NCDC said of new cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria.

    “NCDC @NCDCgov 553 new cases of #COVID19; Lagos-378, FCT-52, Delta-23, Edo-22, Rivers-14, Ogun-13, Kaduna-12, Kano-9, Borno-7, Katsina-6, Jigawa-5, Oyo-5, Yobe-3, Plateau-3, Osun. 9855 cases of #COVID19Nigeria, Discharged: 2856, Deaths: 273”, the NCDC said in a statement. 

    Globally, there are now 6,014, 117 confirmed cases  of Coronavirus while 367, 627 patients have died based on the statistics from the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering, John Hopkins University, Maryland.

    NEW NNPC BOARD NAMED

    According to the centre, the United States still maintains the lead among the most affected countries in the world in terms of population affected and the total number of deaths. 

    The US currently has 1, 765, 723 confirmed cases with 103, 674 deaths, followed by Brazil which has reported 465,166 confirmed cases with 27, 878 deaths. 

    Russia which is currently the most affected country in Europe in terms of population affected has recorded 396, 575 confirmed cases with 4, 555 deaths, followed by United Kingdom which has actually suffered the highest number of deaths in Europe.

    GEORGE FLOYD AND POLICE BRUTALITY

    The U.K currently has 274,219 confirmed cases, while 38, 455 patients are dead, followed by Spain, which has recorded 239,228 confirmed cases with 27, 125 deaths and then Italy with 232, 664 confirmed cases of Coronavirus, while 33, 340 patients have passed on.

    China where the pandemic  was first reported now has 84, 127 confirmed cases, 4,638 deaths, while  79, 384 patients have recovered and subsequently discharged, leaving China with 105 active cases of Coronavirus.
