ANAMBRA, Nigeria – Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Uli Campus, is undergoing a major infrastructural transformation as the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure conducted an on-the-spot inspection of the ongoing internal road and drainage construction within the campus.
The lawmakers inspected the 4.2-kilometre internal road project awarded by the Anambra State Government, which is designed to enhance accessibility, improve mobility, and strengthen critical infrastructure across the university community.
Speaking during the inspection, the Chairman of the Committee, Engr. Emma Nwafor, said the visit was part of the Assembly’s constitutional oversight responsibility to ensure that public projects comply strictly with approved specifications and engineering standards.
Engr. Nwafor noted that construction materials observed on site, including concrete mixes and reinforcement components, met the required quality benchmarks.
He assured that the committee would maintain sustained monitoring of the project to guarantee timely completion, structural integrity, and long-term durability.
In his remarks, the member representing Ihiala Constituency I, Hon. Jude Ngobili, described the road project as a strong indication of the growing strategic importance of COOU Uli Campus within the university system and the state’s educational framework.
He commended Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for fulfilling his commitment to improving infrastructure in state-owned institutions, noting that the project would significantly boost academic activities, economic development, and the overall learning environment in the area.
Expressing the appreciation of the student body, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of COOU Uli Campus, Mr. Uchenna Daniel, said the ongoing infrastructural upgrade has positively impacted students’ morale and learning experience.
Mr. Daniel specifically thanked the Anambra State Government for the newly constructed entrance gates and improved road network, stating that the developments have restored confidence, enhanced campus security, and created a more conducive atmosphere for academic pursuits.
Earlier, the Project Manager, Engr. Christian Mmadubueze, disclosed that drainage construction has reached about 90 per cent completion, while earthworks are approximately 80 per cent completed. He added that the project is on schedule for completion by the end of February, barring unforeseen circumstances.
The inspection further underscores the Anambra State Government’s commitment to upgrading educational infrastructure and providing a safe, functional, and conducive learning environment for students across the state.
