A Coalition of civil society groups in Lagos State on Tuesday stormed office of Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola to protest against the lingering political crisis currently rocking Rivers State as well as the acquittal of Major Hamzat Al-Mustapha former Chief Security Officer to the Late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha.

They also called on the impeachment of President Goodluck Jonathan for failing to implement resolution of the National Assembly on the Rivers crisis.

The protesters who marched peacefully chanted solidarity song, brandishing placards with different inscriptions such as “No to state of emergency in Rivers State; save Rivers State from anarchy; no to Jonathan impunity; no to dictatorship in the land; save our democracy now and enough is enough in Rivers State among others”.

At the State House, they sat at the entrance inhibiting free flow of human and vehicular movement in and out of the governor’s office, until the Chief of Staff to Fashola, Mr. Lanre Babalola received the coalition.

Speaking for the protesters,, Mr. Raji Rasheed  said the country is currently facing political crises  and called on the National Assembly to commence impeachment proceedings against President Goodluck Jonathan for failing to implement the resolutions of the two national legislative chambers on the Rivers State crisis.

He also called on the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloma Mukhtar to institute a panel of inquiry into the judgement of a Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos, which recently acquitted al-Mustapha of complicity on the murder case of Kudirat Abiola, who shot dead in Lagos in 1996.

He condemned the way the presidency had handled some of the crisis, charging the Lagos State Government to approach the Supreme Court over al-Mustapha and Kudirat case.

Receiving their letter addressed to the Senate President, Sen. David Mark and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, the Chief of Staff assured the protesters that the governor would ensure that they are delivered to the National Assembly.
