LAGOS, Nigeria – Former Governor of the defunct Bendel State, Chief Samuel Ogbemudia is dead.
He was 84 years old.
His first son, Samuel Ogbemudia Jnr who announced the death said his father died at 11PM on Thursday in a Lagos Hospital after a brief illness.
He did not reveal the nature of ailment that killed him. He was among the 12 military administrators retired in July 1975 when General Muritala Muhammed became Head of State. He was later tried for corruption, acquitted but dismissed.
He was elected first civilian Governor of Bendel State in October 1983, under the National Party of Nigeria, NPN.
