The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) operated by the Lagos State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) will move 355,000 passengers daily from one part of Lagos State to another in the next 20 years.

Managing Director LAMATA, Mr. Dayo Mobereola made the revelation while speaking at an interactive session on ‘LAMATA at 10’ as part of activities to mark press week of the Lagos Governors Office Correspondents (LAGOCO).
He explained that the BRT currently transports 200,000 passengers daily and that 155,000 passengers would be added when the state government is through with ongoing construction and expansion of the Ketu/Ikorodu.

Mobereola explained that the state government has modified existing design of the road to make room for two types of BRT operation, the express BRT that will run non-stop from Ikorodu to CMS, while another will pick and drop passengers from one bus stop to another.

He said that arrangement has been put in place for the buses to be able to overtake each other on the BRT corridors with a standard pedestrian bridge at the main bus stop to enable passengers cross from one part of the road to another.

He however said that 264 buses will be added to existing fleet to be able to move the 355,000 passengers daily. He revealed that the Lagos State Government will soon introduce electronic card ticket instead of the current paper ticket that would be used across board, in ferries operated by the state, BRT buses and the rail.
