A METROPOLITAN Police officer has been sacked in disgrace after launched a shocking assault on a handcuffed detainee in a hospital ward.
PC Omar Campedelli was booted off the force following a fast-tracked misconduct hearing on Wednesday, June 3, after standard-bearing colleagues bravely blew the whistle on his violent outburst.
The shamed bobby—who was tasked with guarding a vulnerable suspect receiving medical treatment—lashed out and slapped the man across the head.
The Sun can reveal that the drama unfolded on December 1, 2025, while Campedelli, of the Met’s Central West Basic Command Unit, was on hospital watch.
The detainee, who was securely handcuffed to a hospital bed, reportedly spat towards the officer’s legs. Instead of maintaining his professionalism, hot-headed Campedelli snapped, striking the restrained man.
In a desperate bid to cover his tracks, the rogue officer failed to report the physical strike or fill out a mandatory ‘use of force’ form.
But his hopes of keeping the assault a secret were instantly crushed when honest cops who witnessed the shocking behaviour refused to stay silent and reported him to bosses.
Yesterday, a disciplinary panel found him guilty of gross misconduct and dismissed him without notice.
”This was an excessive and unjustified use of force against a detainee who was receiving treatment in hospital.”
— Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah
Blasting the disgraced officer, Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah, head of the Central West BCU, said:
”Actions like PC Campedelli’s have a clear impact on the trust the public has in us to keep people safe while in our care.
”The incident was reported by other officers present, and I thank them for coming forward so we could take action. We remain committed to raising standards and ridding the force of officers who have no place within our organisation.”
The Met has been plagued by a series of high-profile scandals in recent years, and Scotland Yard bosses are desperate to prove they are rooting out bad apples.
Insiders say the fact that Campedelli’s own team turned him in shows a shifting culture within the ranks, where bad behaviour is no longer tolerated behind the blue wall of silence.
Banned for Life
Following his summary dismissal, Campedelli has been placed on the College of Policing’s official Barred List.
The lifetime ban ensures he can never wear a uniform again, preventing him from re-joining the police or securing a job with any other law enforcement and related public bodies.
