PORT HARCOURT, River, Nigeria – The division in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has widened, following the decision of  members of the party loyal to the River State Governor, Mr. Nyesom Wike to pull  out of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council.

The PDP members made the decision after a meeting at the country home of the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Nyesom Wike in Rivers State.

Speaking after the meeting, former Deputy Chairman of PDP, South West, Mr. Olabode George said the Southwest PDP made the decision to pull out of the campaign council until chairman of the party, Dr. Iyorcha Ayu resigns as chairman.

He also said that his resignation will pave way for the emergence of PDP chairman from the South West to lead the party’s campaign during the 2023 general election.

He said their position is not negotiable and that Ayu’s continued stay in office violates the constitution of the party. “We decide not to participate in whatever form until he resigns”.

Also speaking, former governor of Plateau State, Mr. Jonah Jang said that the Ayu compromised the outcome of the PDP convention.

He said the actions of Ayu embracing Tambuwal after the primaries and describing him as hero of the primaries showed that he compromised the process as an umpire.

Those at the meeting include, Professor Jerry Gana,  Olusegun Mimiko,  Ayo Fayose and other bigwigs in the PDP.
