LEBANON – Former Head of auto giants, Nissan Motors and Renault, Carlos Ghosn is now safe in Lebanon, after fleeing Japan where he has been under incarceration for over 100 days for alleged financial impropriety.
“I have escaped injustice and political persecution”, Carlos Ghosn said after arriving Lebanon via a private jet. Carlos Ghosn believes his trial in Japan is politically motivated and that he was arrested on thrumped up charges.
He believes that his former employer at Nissan, prosecutors and government officials conspired against him to prevent him from further integrating Nissan Motors Co with Renault SA.
Carlos Ghosn fled after he was granted bail under difficult condition by a Japanese court but having all his passports in confiscated. The circumstances surrounding his escape has continued to astound many based on his tight bail condition.
For instance, he was not only allowed to spend more than one night away from his house without permision of the judge.
Besides, a video camera was installed on his front door, and at the end of each month, Carlos Ghosn was required to provide a list of everyone he met where he was kept.
Carlos Ghosn’s , lawyer told reporters that all his passports were confiscated and that he was under constant surveillance.
However, Lebanese newspaper, Annahar reported that Carlos Ghosn arrived on a private jet from Turkey, quoting State Minister Salim Jreissati as saying the automotive czar entered Lebanon with a French passport.
Lebanon has no extradition treaty with Japan, the prosecuting country. Carlos Ghosn who holds French, Brazilian and Lebanese citizenship was not allowed to speak to his wife, Carole while he was under incarceration.
