    Armed kidnappers invade ABU Zaria, abduct husband, wife and daugther

    ZARIA, Nigeria – Armed gunmen on Monday, November 23, invaded Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and abducted  a staff, his wife and daughter. In a statement, Director of Public Affairs, Mallam Auwalu Umar said  the gunmen invaded the school at exactly 12:50 am.

    He said the security operatives informed the police who arrived the scene on time, leading to exchange of gunfire between the kidnappers and the policemen.

    “There was an exchange of fire between the kidnappers and the mobile police operatives. When it was clear that they would be overpowered, the kidnappers ran into the bush with their victims”,  Mallam Auwalu Umar said.

    He explained that the gallant policemen went after them and pursued them up to Karsuwa Da Village bothering the university. “The kidnappers then released the  wife and daughter and went away with the husband. Some empty shells were recovered from the scene”, he said.

    He said the Inspector General of Police and other relevant security outfits have been informed adding that the Vice Chancellor of the university has called for calm and vigilance to avoid repeat of the incident.
