ABUJA, Nigeria – The Presidential Election Petitions Court, PEPC today struck out petitions by Allied  Peoples Movement  challenging the double nominations of Vice President Kashim Shettima  of the All Progressive Congress, APC for lack of jurisdiction.

In the lead judgement read by Justice Haruna Tsammani, the court held that  nomination and qualification of candidate in an election is a pre-election matter that ought to have been handled by a Federal High Court before the election and that the time allowed before the election lapsed January 2023.

PEPC therefore struck out the petition of APM on the alleged multiple nomination of vice president Kashim Shettima for lack of jurisdiction.

The court ruled that only aspirants in a political party have the right to challenge the nomination of a candidate in their party.

“No candidate of another party can challenge the nomination of a candidate in another party”, the PEPC ruled.

It therefore held that APM lacks the locus standi to institute matters bothering on nomination and sponsorship of vice president Kashim Shettima.

it added that the APM petition was an abuse of court process having been filed before a Federal High Court and judgement obtained as filed in evidence.
