“My name is Victory Anonye, a 500 level student of medicine and surgery in Jos University Teaching Hospital. I was the highest JAMB scorer in the 2016 UTME Examination.
I am writing this letter to request you to publish my press through your esteemed media outlet about the failure to be recognized and acknowledged at the time. And I would sincerely appreciate it if necessary recognition and financial aids are accorded.
“When I applied for medicine and surgery, I considered University of Jos a super-reach school and had no plan on how to pay for it. Hearing from prospective students about how JAMB reward top scoring students at the end of every year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations, I decided to work very hard to be among the highest scorers that year. I was hoping to receive congratulatory message from JAMB management regarding my performance in the exams, but I never got any. Infact, I felt terribly disappointed that my efforts was not appreciated and valued. It really affected my motivation and productivity in medical school.
My parents gave me many support, but then I received limited financial aids due to low family income. In order to reduce family burden, I had to ask for loan from friends to pay tuition fee and to start up a small business to support myself. It is hard for me being a student when I am financially struggling.
Also, with the increase in tuition fee this year, I am facing more challenges on financial need. As a 500-level medical student, I wish to spend more time on major clinical courses because they are core of my major and vital for my future career as a medical doctor. For this reason, I would greatly appreciate any help I can I get to help me successfully complete my Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree.
Receiving financial support will make a great contribution to my study in the University of Jos. This assistance would help me focus more on my studies. At the same time, this assistance would help me do more on community service and outreaches and explore my potential in helping the needs of people. Additionally, getting financial aids would further motivate me to pursue academic excellence and make my dream of becoming a medical doctor a reality.”
