JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – The African National Congress has announced the passing of Comrade Sechaba “Charles” Setsubi who served Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the South African Communist Party (SACP). Comrade Sechaba “Charles” Setsubi died in the the early hours of today the 12th of March 2018. He was 70.
“We mourn the passing of a veteran of our movement, a true revolutionary and a man of integrity, Comrade Charles who served the movement as member of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the South African Communist Party (SACP)”, ANC said in a statement.
The party described Setsubi as a selfless struggle stalwart of “our movement”. According to the ANC, Comrade Setsubi had no choice but to leave the country of his birth to go to exile in 1975 to continue the fight for total liberation of the people of South Africa.
His passing robbed us of a political educator and a people’s servant. In exile, he served as a Senior Staff Officer and uMkhonto we Sizwe Military Intelligence Officer at the Headquarters in Lusaka, Zambia. An intellectual, Comrade Charles held, amongst his numerous qualifications, a Masters of Arts in Political Science and a Masters in Education.
The ANC sends its heartfelt condolences to the Setsubi family, the SACP and the Alliance. “Our sympathies are extended to all those who knew Comrade Setsubi in person. May his soul rest in peace”, the ANC said.
