AWKA, Anambra – The First Lady of Anambra State, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has called for a reevaluation of the traditional model of child-rearing in communities, where the upbringing of a child is viewed as a collective responsibility rather than solely that of the parents.

Mrs. Soludo made this statement in a press release issued on Sunday in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, by her media aide, Daniel Ezeigwe, in celebration of this year’s Mothering Sunday.

According to the First Lady, a return to the old traditional model of child-rearing would foster a sense of communal responsibility towards raising children. She emphasized that the current lack of moral values in society can be traced to poor parenting and that the traditional approach—where everyone feels responsible for every child—could help remedy this issue.

Mrs. Soludo further explained that, as the heart and conscience of every society, mothers must embrace their roles with urgency and decisiveness, particularly in addressing the rising moral and social challenges facing homes and communities today.

She urged mothers to recognize the sacredness of their duties to both the home and society and to approach these responsibilities with the utmost dedication. She also stressed that mothers should strive to be their children’s best friends first, before assuming any other role.

The Governor’s wife highlighted that motherhood is a rare honor, one that comes with immense responsibilities. She said that if a mother fails in her duties, it is the larger society that bears the consequences.

She also pointed out that many of the moral and social problems confronting society today stem from parental shortcomings, particularly the failure of some mothers to pay adequate attention to the fundamental tasks of child-rearing and managing their homes.

Mrs. Soludo urged all mothers to fully appreciate the weight of the responsibility entrusted to them by God. She encouraged them to be proactive in questioning their children’s behaviors, lifestyles, and associations.

She specifically addressed the issue of mothers who fail to question their children’s sudden wealth or extravagant lifestyles, warning that such unhealthy patterns often lead to negative outcomes.

While extending her heartfelt congratulations to all mothers in Anambra State in celebration of Mothering Sunday, Mrs. Soludo urged everyone to take a moment to honor and support the mothers in their lives with love, affection, and appreciation.
