AWKA, Anambra – The governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in the upcoming November 8 election in Anambra State, Ozo Jephat Ezechukwu Nweke, has urged fellow contestants to adhere to the rules of political engagement and resist the temptation to resort to blackmail for political gain.

Speaking at a press conference over the weekend in Awka, the Anambra State capital, Nweke emphasized that political campaigns should be used as platforms to present policies and programmes to the electorate not as opportunities for character assassination or mudslinging.

He stated:”The essence of political campaigns should not be to malign opponents or engage in needless altercations, but to showcase our developmental plans for the people.

Campaigns should be issue-based. What are your plans for ensuring the security of lives and property? How do you intend to address the menace of kidnappings and killings that have become rampant in our state?

How do you plan to tackle the debilitating multiple taxation that is strangling our people and crippling businesses? What are your strategies for improving the education sector, enhancing the welfare of the populace, and revitalizing the state’s economy? How do you propose to attract investors, create industries, generate employment for our youth, and increase our revenue base all without resorting to character attacks in the name of politics?

These are the real issues that should dominate our conversations, not name-calling.”

Nweke warned that anything contrary to such constructive engagement amounts to politics of bitterness and playing to the gallery,an approach he believes the people of Anambra no longer need.

The AA candidate also condemned recent verbal attacks and the use of uncouth language directed at Governor Chukwuma Soludo over a viral video showing him dancing with his son to a song produced by the latter.

Nweke described the reactions as unnecessary and distasteful.

“Governor Soludo is a father and a human being. Dancing with his son is neither immoral nor wrong,” “He is entitled to moments of joy and personal expression like anyone else. It is therefore both condemnable and detestable for anyone to ridicule the First Family over such a harmless act.”

“We must move away from this dirty politics of bitterness and calumny aimed solely at gaining undue political advantage. Instead, we must return to the issues that matter most to the people of Anambra.”he said.

Nweke also outlined his party’s commitment to a solution-driven campaign:

“On our part, we have developed a comprehensive set of programmes aimed at rescuing Anambra from years of misgovernance and placing the state on a path of sustainable development. These plans continue to unfold as we engage with communities across the state during our campaign.

I acknowledge that there may be different approaches to governance, and while Governor Soludo may have made mistakes as all humans do,he is making an effort to contribute to the development of the state. Constructive criticism, not condemnation, should be our approach if we truly wish to move Anambra forward.”he added.
