ABUJA, Nigeria – The U.S Embassy and Consulate has said that Nigerians are free to travel to the United States.
The embassy issued the statement following the statement credited to Special Adviser to the President on Nigerians in the Diaspora, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa that Nigerians having anything to do in the US to shelve the plan until when everything is clear about President Donald Trump’s Executive Order.
Trump had signed a reversed Executive order banning 6 countries with records of terrorism from entering into the US. Nigeria was not part of those countries. The affected countries are Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen
But there have been reports of Nigerians with valid visa who have been deported from the US after stepping into the country.
But in a statement, the embassy said Nigerians are free to go to US.
“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja wishes to clarify that there is no reason for Nigerians with valid visas to postpone or cancel their travel to the United States.
“Nigeria is not named in the Executive Order on Immigration issued on March 6, and there is no prohibition against Nigerian lawful permanent residents or persons with a valid visa or other U.S. government authorization from entering the United States”, the US Consulate said.
