UMUAHIA – The Abia State Governor, Mr. Alex Otti has suspended all revenue collection in the state as part of effort to stop all forms of extortion, intimidation and harassment of motorists in the process of collecting revenue.

Otti said the suspension is in line with his campaign promises to sanitise the method of revenue collection in the state, adding that the suspension is with immediate effect.

“In line with my campaign promise to sanitize methods of revenue collection in Abia, and stop all kinds of extortion, intimidation and harassment of motorists, I have directed the immediate suspension of all kinds of Transport Levies payable to Abia state government and imposed on Tricycles, Buses, Taxis and other commercial vehicles plying Abia roads”, the governor said.

He said the suspension will remain until his government is able to carry out a review these levies and make public arrangements for the smooth, organized and transparent collection of such transport levies.

The governor who said he has asked all those involved in collecting revenue to discontinue, warned that security agents have been briefed to arrest anybody found to be violating the order.

“In the light of the above decision, I have asked all those involved, directly and indirectly to please discontinue forthwith, or face the wrath of the law, as security agents have been briefed and directed to apprehend and bring to justice anyone found violating this directive”, he said.
