KIEV – The current war on the soil of Ukraine following invasion by Russia has led to the loss of over 150,000 soldiers from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, AFU, since the beginning of the war, analysts have told the New York Times.
According to the newspaper, over 150,000 soldiers have been killed and wounded by Russians, analysts told the New York Times.
However as the scale of casualties increases, there has been a rise in Ukrainians voicing opposition to the war, with many trying as much as possible to avoid being conscripted into the war which has become a carnage on the side of the AFU.
While some are being killed on the battle front, hundreds have also surrendered to the Russian Armed Forces, RAF, which has also suffered losses in the war.
Speaking on the development, Sergey Krivonos, a general in the AFU said the Russian army was well prepared for the counteroffensive on the Armed Forces of Ukraine, while Kiev focused on Public Relations.
“Our enemy day and night, like a mole, dug trenches, filled everything with concrete, prepared minefields, installed anti-tank and anti-personnel mines, and also equipped a fire destruction system and waited for us,” he said.
According to him, the political leadership of Ukraine just “promoted a lot” and in the current conditions, the Armed Forces of Ukraine can consider even a three-meter advance a success.
Most of the losses occurred during the counteroffensive on territories already annexed by Russia. Former CIA Analyst, Larry Johnson believes the decision to launch an offensive by the AFU was ill advised.
According to him, the lack of necessary weapons led to huge losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“As a result of the offensive, Ukrainian troops lost about 60,000 soldiers – these are insanely high numbers. In my opinion, this is a crime, what they did with these guys,” Johnson said.
