    ABUSE OF POWER: COURT SLAMS SARS, SAYS YOU MUST PRODUCE BIDEMI ADELEYE IN COURT

    IKOYI, Lagos, Nigeria – A Federal high court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos has ordered the Special Anti-robbery Squad(SARS), an arm of the Nigerian Police noted for lawlessness and abuse of power to produce Kolawole Bidemi Adeleye who has been incarcerated in the Ikeja division since 15th of November, 2017 in court on Wednesday 3rd of January 2018.




    Justice Adizat Shagari made the order base on the passionate oral application made by Bidemi’s counsel Barrister Olanrewaju Ajanaku on Friday 29th of December, 2017.

    In a motion on notice file by Ajanaku the applicant alleged that he was arrested since the 15th of November 2017 by SARS ikeja division and subjected to brutal torture which has led to the dislocation of his right hand wrist – bone, swollen hands and bruises all over his hands, arms and his back without been charged to court.

    The applicant is asking court to declare his detention as illegal and unconstitutional as it offends the provision of African Chartered on Human and People’s Right Act Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

    Bedemi also ask the court to grant an order of perpetual injunction against SARS and compensation of N5,000,000 as damages for his unlawful detention.

    In an affidavit deposed to by Mrs Adesola Adepoju a lawyer, the applicant averred that he was arrested by a team of policemen led by 2nd respondent Inspector Idowu while on his duty post in Durbar Junction in mile 2 of Amuwo Odofin on the allegation that he knows about the death of one Emannuel Ubah (a. k. a. Onwa).

    Justice Shagari In adjourning this suit to Wednesday 3rd of January made an order that SARS, Ikeja division should produce in Bedemi in court.
