ANAMBRA, Nigeria – Anambra State commissioner for Public Utilities , Engr Emeka Ezenwanne who was kidnapped on Wednesday night has regained his freedom. Ezenwanne was kidnapped by gunmen who invaded the venue of an interactive session between an All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship aspirant, Prof Chukwuma Soludo and youths of his community in Isuofia, Aguata local government area .
The gunmen killed three policemen, and made away with the commissioner who had scaled the fence in attempt to escape, but ran into the gunmen. A source who spoke to our reporter said that he just spoke with the commissioner and he has been freed and in good health too.
He also said there was no ransom paid before his releases. According to him, the commissioner said that his abductors did not maltreat him in anyway. Confirming the release, spoke person for Anambra State police command DSP Ikenga Tochukwu said that the Anambra State Police Command today 4th April, 2021, wishes to confirm to the members of the Public, especially Anambra people the safety of Engr Emeka Ezenwanne, the State Commissioner for Public Utilities.
According to him the police, military and other security agencies had mounted intense search and rescue efforts, which was closed on his abductors, thereby forcing them to release him.
He said that the Hon Commissioner has returned home unhurt in the early hours of today 4th April 2021. According to him, the state commissioner of police CP Monday Bala Kuryas has called for calm and reiterates the Command’s commitment towards ensuring safety and security of the residents in the state .
