AKEREDOLU’S WIFE OFFERS FREE MEDICAL TREATMENT TO MARKET WOMEN
OWO, Ondo, Nigeria – Wife of Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu has given out free eye glasses and mosquito nets to market women in Owo, Ondo State.
This was done at a programme tagged ‘’Market Health Visit’’ in collaboration with Caroline Samuel Foundation, which took place at Oja-Oba market in Owo. The market women were given access to free medical check-ups for malaria, typhoid, hepatitis B, blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, eye test, and BMI. Many of the women also received free treatments.
The First Lady explained that the programme became necessary in order to sensitise women about their health and promote good health among them. “It is an opportunity to tell our people that the present administration in the State is so particular about people living healthy and will stop at nothing in ensuring that Ondo residents are enjoying good health.”
Arabinrin Akeredolu who observed that the programme was the first of its kind in the State, assured the people that the programme will continue. “Since health is wealth and most market women find it hard to leave their goods for hospitals, we decided to bring good health to your door steps because without good health, you cannot do anything.”
Earlier in his address, during the courtesy visit to his palace, the Olowo of Owo, HRH (Dr) David Folagbade Olateru Olagbegi, appreciated Arabinrin Akeredolu for her efforts in educating women about breast cancer. He also appreciated her for the free medical treatments given to Owo market women.
‘’I want to appreciate you for your efforts at fighting breast cancers and the free eye glasses and mosquito nets given to the women and children. I want to thank you for being so kind. I want to urge the people of the State to continue to support the State government for the good of the State’’
In his speech, the Chairman Owo Local Government, Alhaji Gani Omoluka, while commending the efforts of the First Lady, described her as a unique woman who is factual, knowledgeable and passionate about well-being of women and children in the state and beyond.
“We thank you for this beautiful programme that has given these market women opportunities to be treated freely on malaria, typhoid and other health related issues as well as making available free eye glasses and mosquito nets for those in need.
In company of Her Excellency was the wife of the deputy governor; Chief Mrs. Ajewole Agboola Ajayi, the Commissioner for Health; Dr. Adegbenro and the commissioner for women affairs and social development, Hon. Wunmi Olatunji Edet among others.
The wife of the governor promised that free medical check-ups and free treatments will be made available to market women all across the 18 local government areas of Ondo state.
