Anticipated traffic gridlock at Ahmadu Bello Way, the type at Governor’s Avenue, Alausa during the holidays

The Lagos State Government has said it will restrict movement on Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos from tomorrow Thursday to Sunday August 11, 2013.

The restriction is to make room for ongoing construction along Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island. Motorists plying the route in these days will be forced into one lane, which will likely engender traffic build up in the area.

Speaking on the development, Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opeifa said  motorists inward Adeola- Odeku junction on Ahmadu Bello Way would be restricted to use only one lane from Thursday morning to Sunday evening.

He advised motorists who do not have important business or activity along the axis are to stay off the road.

Opeifa said that those going to Galleria to enjoy their holiday are free to do so adding that pedestrians should use the walkways in order to ensure their safety.

The Commissioner urged motorists to be cautious on the road as Traffic Signal Lights (TSL) installed on the axis will be put off, while traffic would be controlled manually.

The Commissioner said that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be on ground to give traffic instructions and information to motorists along the axis.

He appealed to road users to obey traffic personnel, comply with traffic rules and regulations as well as avoid over speeding, dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol especially during the Eid -el- Fitri festival.
