LAUSANNE, Switzerland – The International Olympic Committee, IOC today sanctioned Ukraine athlete, Viktoriya TERESHCHUK for taking perfomance enhancing drugs at the Olympic Games Beijing 2008.




Viktoriya TERESHCHUK, 35, of Ukraine, competed in the women’s individual modern pentathlon event (running, riding, swimming, fencing, shooting) in which she ranked 3rd and for which she was awarded a bronze medal.

According to IOC, re-analysis of Tereshchuk’s samples from Beijing 2008 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substance dehydrochloromethyltestosterone (turinabol).

The IOC Disciplinary Commission, composed for this case of Mr Denis Oswald (Chairman), Mrs Gunilla Lindberg and Dr Ugur Erdener found her to have committed an anti-doping rule violation pursuant to the IOC Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing in 2008.

The UIPM is requested to modify the results of the above-mentioned event accordingly and to consider any further action within its own competence. The National Olympic Committee of Ukraine shall ensure full implementation of this decision, the IOC said.

The National Olympic Committee of Ukraine shall notably secure the return to the IOC, as soon as possible, of the bronze medal, the diploma and the medallist pin awarded in connection with the women’s individual modern pentathlon to the athlete.
